The Invicta Reserve Akula (0629) is an eye catching casual watch with a durable build and comfortable fit well suited to outdoor wear.

The Invicta Reserve Akula (0629) has an 18K gold ion plated stainless steel case which measures 50mm in diameter and 18mm thick. Its blue, polyurethane strap has matching 18K gold ion plated accents. The strap is 9.50 inches long 32mm wide. This is secured by a stainless steel buckle clasp, which also plated in 18K gold.

Features:

  • Luminous
  • Date Display
  • GMT Function
  • Water Resistant
  • 18K Gold Ion Plated
  • Swiss-Quartz Movement

The round, sunray dial is adorned with gold tone and luminous hour indices. White, luminous hour, minute, and second hands indicate the time in visible contrast to the deep blue dial. White, Arabic even numerals from 2 to 24 and black markers form an inner circle on the dial. The deep blue GMT hand moves at half the speed of the standard 12 hour hand, thereby indicating the time in a 24 hour format as well as the standard 12 hour configuration.

The Invicta Reserve Akula has a Polyurethane Strap and Stainless Steel, Gold Ion Plated Buckle Clasp.

Additionally, the Reserve has a date display, which can be found at the 3 o’clock position. The date is depicted by black, Arabic numerals on a white back ground. This high-contrast color scheme makes the date easily viewable despite the otherwise small size of the display.

The dial is framed by a stationary, stainless steel bezel, plated in 18K gold, and a blue hard, polyurethane cover to add to durability. In addition, Invicta’s trademarked flame-fusion crystal improves the watch’s resistance upon impact. A screw-down case back and push/pull crown made of polyurethane help ensure the watch is water-resistant down to 100 meters (330 feet).

The Reserve Akula has a retail price of $1,295.00, but can be found online for $200-400.00 and on sale for as little as $169.00. I recommend checking sites such as Amazon.com, NextDayWatches.com, and TheWatchery.com for deals.

The manufacturer offers a one-year warranty with purchase. Invicta ensures its watches are in perfect working order with an extended testing period after each repair before returning it to the owner. This seems to include testing the water-resistance of watches after battery replacements. It’s advisable to spring for the extended warranty, since changing the battery in water-proof watches can be tricky and it’s almost certain this battery will live past one year.

Invicta Men’s Reserve Akula GMT Blue Dial Blue Polyurethane, 0629 – Sporting a trendy style, this Invicta timepiece has a versatile design that achieves the perfect mixture of contemporary and class. Gold Plated Stainless Steel Case and Polyurethane Strap.

Pros:

  • Durable
  • Comfortable
  • Very Readable
  • Impressive Look

Cons:

  • Casual Wear Only
  • Too Large for Some

This sharp looking timepiece is sure to capture compliments with its bright blue and gold color scheme leaping out at passers by. While the gold plating distracts from an otherwise sporty design, this is still definitely a casual wear watch. Polyurethane gives the watch a comfortable fit for daily wear, but also makes it impossible to dress this watch up for special occasions. If you’re looking for something snazzier than the typical sports watch though, this is definitely a good middle ground.

The clear and nicely contrasting color scheme on the dial make the Reserve Akula highly readable, while luminous hands and markers keep it viewable even in low-light conditions. Swiss made quartz movement keeps the watch displaying time precisely while flame-fusion crystal, the push/pull crown, and screw-down backing keep this timepiece ticking even under 100 meters of water while withstanding moderate impact.

The Invicta Reserve Akula 0629 Shown with Meassurements - 50mm in diameter and 18mm thick.

The Invicta Reserve is a Large Watch – 50mm in Diameter and 18mm Thick, it weighs in at 16 ounces.

You’ll definitely want to note the size of this watch. 50mm is large by any standard for a timepiece, and with a weight of 16 ounces, you’ll definitely notice its presence. Those with a smaller frame will want to steer clear, since watches of this size often look bulky or awkward on most men. If you know you like large watch faces though and/or you have a larger upper body or bone structure, the watch can look quite impressive.

Summary:
This stylish, casual wear watch will definitely make an impression. Impact resistant, water resistant, and comfortable, the Invicta Reserve Akula (0629) proves a reliable outdoor companion besides. While its size can be overwhelming on some, others will find this combines nicely with the eye catching color scheme to give the timepiece an impressive look overall. For under $500 online, the Reserve Akula is an excellent buy.
